well...just came home from mardigras@temasek....that is a bazaar-cum-arts performance around tj campus kinda thing....it's happening...quite...but thought the one 2 yrs ago was MORE happening...maybe 'cos it was the 25th anniversary. anyway it was a nice time...i saw SO many people...juniors, seniors, friends, tutors, mrs. lim, mrs. hoo etc etc...talked to many people...indulged myself in the good ol' tj spirit of playing and friendships...
well suprisingly a lot of my cohort's ppl...(yr 3s) were involved in the performances! weiqi, steph, aaron, siying, august..plus seniors like rahmat...that aside...the performances were still very very good!! the choir, the dances, the music...at first it was quite bland..but it got much better as the night wore on...there was an "all-stars" performance where it featured beatboxing, breakdancing, rapping, singing...by weiqi, aaron, charles (a yr 2) and stephanie...and it was REALLY good....it is so unbelievable how talented these ppl are....sigh....the crowds were impressed...clearly. then we moved to the rock wall for the 'closing ceremony'...rahmat's band played...very good band! quite happening also...there was a mini mosh pit where some bunch of tjcians were jumping and waving their hands in the air, screaming on top of their voices to familiar sounds of 3 doors down, linkin' park, red hot chilli peppers etc...some things never change...and i'm glad for that...=)
had dinner with ian...this old friend of mine whom i seldom see but is always greatly missed....he has become vainer...sporting a new hairstyle, rings (haha) and using beauty products! well...he has 6 months to be vain b4 he goes into NS..so i let him be lah...though many times during the night i kept going.."oh my gosh you are even vainer than me!" but it's always nice to talk to him..'cos he's the most cynical, the most jaded, the most politically incorrect in a politically correct way...(he's a journalist...what can u expect?), the one guy i can hold conversations with without having to think of the next topic to talk about...and we can talk for many hours...i think the record was either 5 hours plus at molly malone's or marche...
with friends like these...what more can i ask for? don't worry i still want to get married and have kids...the prospect of dying alone is just too much to bear...which led me to a question...if the ONE doesn't show up in life...should we
1. give up, grow old and die alone
2. settle for someone who's not the perfect yin to your yang
3. continue looking till you find him?
do the prince charming in fairy tales come? do fairy tales come thru'?

"The most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you find someone to love the you you love, well, that's just fabulous." -Carrie
this quote is taken from the series finale of sex and the city....as i read the sypnosis on the sex and the city website (we poor ppl in singapore can't watch it yet on cable...so we resort to smuggling of dvds haha...) for the last time, and reading about carrie and mr. big finally getting together....i myself got a bittersweet feeling. carrie has been through six seasons of dating...and the things that were constant...are her friendships with miranda, charlotte and samantha, as well as the love she and mr. big shared. the rest (including aidan, jack berger and petrovsky) didn't matter anymore. now she has a job, a partner, 3 amazing friends who will stick with her no matter what, a fabulous apartment in manhattan, a really huge wardrobe of fabulous clothes and who can forget, her collection of fabulous high heels...
the good thing is not only was there closure on our lovely leading lady, the supporting cast also closed their lives...even samantha! 6 seasons of guys and relationships and experiments, heart breaks, marriages, babies, gays, straights, bisexuals, the guy who licked charlotte's face, richard wright who made samantha fall hard...not to mention cancer faced first by steve, then by samantha. somehow all these mirrors lives that women live by today...maybe not really in singapore....
for me...in terms of relationships...it has been smooth till now...i've never met someone whom i can truly love. or someone i could remotely fall in love with...yet....i've recently discovered that the difference between friendship with guys and a actual love relationship is sexual chemistry. without that, you're just friends. with that...you're cleared for take off. then someone asked me how do u define sexual chemistry....i think that's subjective...yah...
but whatever it is, i'm not the kind of girl that falls in and out of love easily...i think...considering i've never been in love for 18 years and counting. but i know he's out there somewhere...and i just gotta keep on looking....until i find him. the ONE...my very own mr. big...
p.s now we finally know his name is john....as seen on carrie's caller ID...

benjamin told me of this nice song by local artist corinne may...called fly away...the lyrics are so sad!! u figure out yourself...quite obvious...
"When will you be home?" she asks
as we watch the planes take off
We both know we have no clear answer to where my dreams may lead
She's watched me as i crawled and stumbled
As a child, she was my world
And now to let me go, I know she bleeds
and yet she says to me
You can fly so high
Keep your gaze upon the sky
I'll be prayin every step along the way
Even though it breaks my heart to know we'll be so far apart
I love you too much to make you stay
Baby fly away
Autumn leaves fell into spring time and
SIlver-painted hair
Daddy called one evening saying
"We need you. Please come back"
When I saw her laying in her bed
Fragile as a child
Pale just like an angel taking flight
I held her as I cried
You can fly so high
Keep your gaze upon the sky
I'll be prayin every step along the way
Even though it breaks my heart to know we'll be so far apart
I love you too much to make you stay
Baby fly away
ohh...
I love you too much to make you stay
Baby fly away
cheers to local artists, lotr, sex and the city, johnny depp...

it's monday!! there's 5 more days to the next weekend. another beautiful weekend gone...
today we had a family picnic at sentosa's Tanjong beach. i've never been there...i'm a palawan beach fan...but tanjong beach is actually as nice as palawan..though u need to walk from the monorail....we drove there so it didn't matter. it was really nice...last time we used to go labrador park to picnic....anyway i made macademia nut and chocolate chip muffins...my sis made "sushi sandwhich" which's nice! ( 2 flavours - mayo chicken and crabstick with avocado ) we had drinks..including sakae...fruits....the sun the sand the sea the sunset....plenty of people watching and dog watching...some dogs were so adorable!! there was a german shephard, golden retriever, jack russell, beagle, the hush puppies dog, and a guinea pig...haha~ quite funny. the dogs swam in the lagoon with the humans...it was nice....after the picnic and sunset we went to watch the new musical fountain show. it's actually quite entertaining...they added 3D laser animation and used fire balls....after that we left and went to eat at east coast park's new hawker centre...good food! and still crowded at 10...couldn't find parking lots. saw a lovely siberian husky...=)
anyway yesterday was just talking to teacher chue yan and teacher queenie about couples who don't want to have children...they have dogs and other pets instead...and they treat their pets like their children...feed them designer food, buy clothes, bring them to (for example) sentosa to swim and picnic etc....quite an alarming phenomenen in my opinion....birth rates lowering in developed countries....developing countries becoming developed...then birth rates lower again...it's like this snowball effect which would result in disastrous consequences.
what in the world is happening?

new blog skin!! thanks to donald who told me about this site...a nice change..though i only had the one from blogspot for a few days...haha...but as i did that i lost the 2 comments i got from a dear friend ian...so i'm gonna do him justice and copy and paste it here... it's a comment to my earlier post on ryan and trista.
*begin ian's comment*
so comes the voice of that ol' jaded optimistic cynic - of which you have been spared for nearly 8 months - ironies of oxymorons, i know...
if i may share my 2 cents tonight, well, love is over-rated. though... love is indeed immense, and a need of life - to quote Ewan McGregor, "like oxygen". Sometimes, you have this love hate relationship with love itself - don't you think? Though love is practically the simplest thing one can offer, it's undoubtedly the hardest thing to give. Like maybe a paradox of paradigms... I think we as human kind still have much to learn about this concept of the overarching ethic of love, of which was developed by our omnipotent being. We practically live our lives around this concept of love do we not?

anyhow, i suggest, you have to watch 'Something's Gotta Give'. Movie of the month in my books... that's of course before Tim Burton's 'Big Fish' opens.
That one, trust me, will be very amazing.
i also suggest, a dinner appointment sometime soon.
toodles till then no? =)

anyway the chinese serial on channel 8 9pm slot ended today. it's quite bad, but i still watched it 'cos of edmund chen...=) anyway i couldn't help but compare this show to CSI:crime scene investigation..which is now showing on AXN. the channel 8 one focussed more on catching criminals instead of relying on evidence to solve the crime. they entered so many crime scenes and handled so many evidence without gloves...failed to show us they did DNA swabs and checking for DNA matches and collecting epithelials..or epithelial cells....sigh...we have much to learn...

just remembered i forgot to add something for my entry today...
i'm sososo happy for trista and ryan..after watching the 2ns episode of their wedding special...the ending was just so sweet..romantic...perfect....sigh~ makes u wonder about the concept of love and 'happily ever after'...indeed it was fairy tale...or is a fairy tale...
the more important question....can they last? being the optimist...of course...=)

well well just dropping by....was just watching american idol results...but melody already told me camille and matthew will make it through...i like that hawaiian girl...she's good.
then i was channel surfing...there was this thing on elephants on animal planet. it seems elephants are showing signs that they know and experience the feeling of mortality as they 'grieve' over deaths of their relatives (all elephants by the way). this male elephant was nursing this dead elephant with its trunk...maybe i imagined it but i thought i saw a sense of remorse and sadness in its eyes. wonder if animals could actually feel like us...if this can be proven...it brings the issue of animal rights to a whole new level....we did a GP compre on this!! =)
tomorrow (or rather today since it's close to 1am) is a friday! yeah..the weekend is here...can't wait for this weekend..with the prospect of a new crumpler bag...many joys with friends...a movie to watch...and many more....
sweet dreams...

tuesday's (yesterday) has been one eventful day at school. first this irritating man comes into the HOD room asking for this HOD who was at HOD meeting. spare u the irritating details. then i confronted this student who lied about doing her punishment when she didn't even do a single thing during science. then during english i made a startling discovery - my students are expecting to be spoon-fed!! well...now i know when it first manifests...this phenomenen that will continue through out their sec sch and jc days unless something is done... but then again this is a little different 'cos my students expect the answer to be right in their face so all they do is just copy. in the end at the end of one hour...some groups were still thinking of the story they were supposed to come up with...when 3 other groups have finished.
spoon feeding is not uncommon during my days as a student. my bio tutor from jc used to say our jc's mascot should be a gigantic spoon. true we did get a lot of help from our tutors - revision lecture notes which were really really useful (our lecture notes were really good too...), tutorials, answers, supplementary stuff etc. everything was given to us with a fee of 5 cents per piece of paper from the Zap! but i have to admit although it contributes to our laziness, it helped us a lot. at least it helped me a lot...to sieve through the big piles of notes was just too time consuming. i often wondered if my jc were to be like raffles..to throw us into the deep end of the ocean (not pool)..would my jc people still survive through the rigours of A levels? Is this the key to the many "successes" of rafflesians? i have friends who just started in raffles jc, and seems like they're already trying to tread water at the deep end of the ocean.
another point to note...will we still want to be spoon fed when we enter university? or will we be lost without lecture notes? do we now need more dictation practices and practice speed writing so that we can take notes during uni lectures? for those who took s papers, esp bio s...we weren't that spoonfed until after we did the essays...will this make us stronger? as singapore revamps its education system...is spoonfeeding becoming a growing trend or would it limit our creativity? *yawn....time for quiet time....good night...

i'm quite late to explore the genre of blogs huh? just wanted to try it out for fun...inspired by carrie from sex and the city...who makes a living thinking aloud about love, sex, relationships and friendships and type them out into a cloumn. also a medium for my friends overseas, particularly joyce!! my dearest fellow LOTR/aragorn fan who left for melbourne to learn how to psycho people just yesterday...oh..for my friends overseas to keep track of how i'm surviving working life, the results which'll be released very soon...
anyway there's this letter published in the papers where this student was asking the editors about teachers finding out from their students' blogs that the students have been criticising them all over....stupid really... both the teacher and student...and this is coming from someone who was a student and became a teacher....
getting late...shall just go to bed....good night singapore...and to joyce, who's probably sleeping on her SQ plane...en route to melbourne.
