clay wrote something in his book Learning To Sing. something about opinions. something along the lines of

"it's like not having an opinion about music. what do you mean no opinion?"

that prompted a friend of mine to muse on our forum...about singaporeans not having opinions.

actually...i do agree with clay that everyone should have an opinion. how can you not have an opinion? "i think i don't know" or something along those lines also counts for an opinion...'cos you really don't know!

i do know that it's a basic social etiquette to think before you speak in singapore. we have racial harmony and religious harmony to worry about. but other than these... you cannot let whatever that's in your head come out of your mouth!

you're always welcomed to give comments or critic on something. but it's only correct to do it nicely and politely. use words that don't hurt and phrase your words and sentences in a discreet manner. (but the catch is the person must be willing to accept those comments and criticism.)

and many people comment that there's not enough space and platform to air your views on major political/social/singapore-related issues. which is the highlight of the NUS ministerial forum...with MM Lee Kuan Yew. and it's not true. just go set up a website... go get a licence to speak at speaker's corner. email to the straits times/today/new paper or any of the numerous publications in singapore.

anyway..about singaporeans being opinionated... i think most of us who care have opinions. we all have opinions about our government's policies, our education system, our media industry, our censorship board, a movie, a song (clay's a good singer!), the horrific case of huang na and the subsequent gossip that follows. just look at the forum page in ST, or the ST interactive online forums. we just choose not to run our mouth and shoot everything out. ST edits and vets thru' the emails and letters it receives. that's why we have harmony. so i guess that applies to the individual level too.

anyway...

i got my ipod! ahhh...i'm so excited..it looks fabulous! white...and seeing my name on an ipod is just so nice...sam just bought me a ipod skin..in blue. so with it it looks like a big blue ipod mini....loading my songs in. 20GB...this little thing has half the capacity of my ibook lah....amazing....

ok..stop.

recess is ending! oh no.......... it means exams are coming. shoottttt....

anyway i love this song so much. we sang it during consecreation on the last night of youth conference last year. pastor delivered such a powerful message, sending us into this deep emotional trench searching our hearts and minds and seeking the Lord. which ended in tears.

So You Would Come

Before the world begain
You were on His mind
And ev'ry tear you cry
Is precious in His eyes
Because of His great love
He gave His only Son
Everything was done
So you would come

Chorus
Come to the Father
Though your gift is small
Broken hearts, broken lives
He will take them all
The power of the Word
The power of His blood
Everything was done
So you would come

Nothing you can do
Could make Him love you more
And nothing that you've done
Could make Him close the door
Because of His great love
He gave His only Son
Everything was done
So you would come

Repeat chorus.

It's amazing. The lyrics to this song are so meaningful, everytime i play it on the piano and sing it, it touches my heart, to know that He loves me so much.
