wake up and smell the coffee.

the weekend is over in a flash.

just realised i forgot to invite the person who would appreciate the hall production most to come down and watch it. darn.

weekend passed by so quickly. let's see. went to comex exhibition. now the proud owner of a new small stylo external HDD with leather pouch! and my mum asked me to buy a new sony memory stick for her picture takings. no more 512MB, so buy 1GB lor. haha~ bit much...oh well. anyway it was SOOOOOOO crowded. i could hardly breathe properly.

then left early for church. pastor mitch talked about the grace of the Lord, which i oh-so-often take for granted, but i try not to! how to be strong in the grace of the Lord. how to be strong in the face of life's challenges. be it stress, school problems, relationship problems, spiritual problems. His grace is abundant and so available to us. we need to trust in His strength and not our own. just like a good christian soldier. to be able to endure hardship, like what Paul tells Timothy.

" You, therefore, must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ."
2 Timothy 2:3

most importantly, must not entangle ourselves with affairs of the world. this point is re-emphasized here, and is repeated all over 1 John. things of the world extraps us and draws us away from God.

this must not happen.

"You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus."
2 Timothy 2:1

must be strong. as work piles up in school. today as i sat in microbiology lecture, can;t help but wonder how in the world am i going to memorise all that! ohman...information overload.

there's a matter of assignments and labreports.

and there's also wsc work - finally handed over centre head duties to angellia. thank goodness. or i'll just collapse and die. now gotta worry about my secretarial duties. argh.

and my lovely VP just ask if i could chair some minor projects! ohmygoodness....

i need superhero genes.

point-to-note: jokes cracked by biology students are really one-of-a-kind. and if you're biologically inclined, you'd find them so amusing, it's actually so funny it's therapeutic. and it helps with memorising and understanding. hurhur. :) stemmed from tr. chen kee-tj bio days. nowadays with reproduction lectures and mammary glands stuff...these bound to come up. :D

holidays!! planning to have fun and enjoy+study for stupid 201 test before it's all the way to exams. all over again.

oh! haven't finished rambling about my weekend! after church came home to family dinner. yummy as usual. got new dishes to sample. very nice...aahhh...had bellini's (peach + nice moet champagne) and japanese palm sake. nicenice...had mooncakes from hilton hotel! so nice....

sunday was slack day plus a whole lot of tv (ed, desperate housewives, CSI:miami, without a trace, joy luck club) and some work. plus family simple dinner and mooncakes! we watched the joy luck club, based on the book by amy tan. i quite like her 'cos i learn a lot about the chinese culture from her books.

actually quite poignant to watch joy luck club, about 4 women and their grown-up daughters. talks about 3 generations of chinese women. 1st - born, bred and died in china. 2nd, born in china, later migrated to america. 3rd - born in america, americans, speaks with accent, knows no mandarin at all. their different struggles, how the 1st generation women tried so hard to provide for their daughters so they won't end up having a life like theirs. poor and poor and miserable. their sorrows were painfully depicted in scenes that are just so heart-wrenching. when a mother leaves her daughter in the ends of another family. never seeing her again.

as they succeeded, the 2nd gen women, while growing up had their fair share of troubles. as they move to america things got much better but they still grapple with their horrific past and the fact they long for their mothers. as they provide for their daughters it's so different again. the narration changes to the 3rd gen women as they tell their side of the story, how their mothers expect the best of them, and whatever they did the mums were never pleased. this spoke to my heart most. for obvious reasons. and also problems with their marriage and children and all.

the narration keeps changing. but it seems more than half the film was narrated. maybe i shld go read the book. but i liked it a lot. tells a lot about the previous generations of women in china. so interesting. the 4 stories were wound together by common themes

and one very important concept of love between a mother and a daughter. how it transcends boundaries, countries, generations and individuals...
